Update for Oct. 22, 2008:

Friends, It has been nice to hear from you since the website has been back up and running. The new album is finished in so far as the recording part is concerned. It's all out of my hands now. Timmy Carter has a lovely new studio attached to his home in Nashville. It was cozy and romantic, a good place for a bunch of guys to gather and play candlelit music. And eat nothing but protein from the grill. The album art work will be done by a guy here in my hometown of Davidson, NC....check him out www.davidmerckstudio.com. He's a one of a kind talent. He painted an owl on the ceiling of my studio which to this day continues to haunt me when I look up. There were a number of moments in Nashville when I felt truly fortunate to be playing music, as compared to a year ago, when I was just selling real estate. I'm happy to do both, if necessary, and if available, but I admire the guys who stick out the hard times, eat less, work more, travel farther, just to play what they love. The Tim and Danny Carters of the world, the Hadden Sayers and Dan Sherrills, and Jim Ashtons and Phil Skippers. You'd think with the prevailing circumstances of our world: high gas prices, high motel prices, less money for entertainment. I hear not a complaint from the bunch. Just resolve to rock and roll like always. Good people.

Update September 23, 2008

The website is up and running again, thanks once again to Laurie Koster. I'm not sure where to start...it's been so long. It's an interesting time in this country and this world. Thankfully, mandolins endure global financial crises and in a recent interview Bernanke said that banjo players are responsible for the collapse of the housing market. I agree. So I put out a Christmas album a couple years ago and its ready for this XMAS too. The nice thing about XMAS albums is that they are useful year after year, unless of course, you find this one offensive. Hadden Sayers plays guitar and you just can't beat that with a stick. Moving forward, we're going to make a new album in October. And by we, I mean I, and Hadden Sayers, Phil Skipper and Dan the Drum Man Sherrill. Phil was the bass player in Cast Iron Filter (after Mason) and Hadden is my favorite person to sing Christmas songs with...Dan shows up to the gig with ten thousand drums. The album will be largely instrumental with a couple political tunes I can't help but sing. I love drums.

There will be mixed Carter Brothers band shows in October and hopefully a year end tour with Hadden to round out the season. I will devote the first of next year to the release of my new album, tentatively called "I'm sorry for everything I've ever done to anyone". And then by March I'll find myself in NYC for a mandolin orchestra performance (more details to follow). Some time between now and then, the best real estate agent turned country music superstar, Rusty Knox, will release a very cool and much overdo album that he kindly invited me to perform on. I think you can find him on myspace. Or just google "rusty knox-u-up". And if you love fly fishing as much as I do, check out http://www.spottedtailproductions.com. Those crazy Alaskan fishermen were kind enough to use my music as a back-drop to their new film. Lastly, I promise, supposedly there will be an indie film using my song "chronicle". You can find that one at http://www.theminimovie.com. Let's hope its the nexts Napolean Dynamite. I know that's a lot of information and there's one last thing....the entire Cast Iron Filter catalog as well as all of my solo stuff is available through Dualtone Records on Itunes. You know where to find it.
